"...we understand how confusing the multi-club, multi-registry situation must appear to people who are new to the breed."

First of all, the Shiloh Shepherd is NOT a "Breed"!

The AKC classifies a "Breed" as a TYPE of dog that  can be clearly recognized as distinctly different from ANY other "type", i.e., a Fox Terrier versus a Parson Russell Terrier, originally created from the former!

Shiloh Shepherds are NOT recognized by ANY legitimate all breed registry!! Even the ISSR - with over 50 years worth of documented data -- doesn't have enough variety within the gene pool to attain FULL recognition YET!!

**Once accepted ONLY ISSR registered dogs will qualify for AKC papers!**

OUTCROSSED GSD LINES WILL NEVER BE ACCEPTED AS "RECOGNIZED" SHILOH SHEPHERDS!!
(Please see Shiloh "Fraud" and my recent Who article.)

Long haired GSD's with PROPER AKC papers (not computer generated, self-made papers) may actually qualify for "Breed" recognition, as per the new FCI rules!! The White Shepherds have already attained FCI recognition!! The LHGSD will probably be next -- what about the Shiloh Shepherd? As long as the slivers are attached to OUR NAME and CLAIMING "MULTIPLE REGISTRIES" this will NEVER happen!! Ask ANY *REAL DEAL* breeder-judge-official!! Check out the FCI (breed recognition) requirements--same with the AKC-FSS and of course even the UKC officials were laughing at us when this farce started!

Tina M. Barber, Shiloh Shepherd Breed Founder, candidly discusses the critical issues facing her breed in the new millennium.

"Outcrossing: 'If it's not an ISSR Shiloh Shepherd, it's not a real Shiloh Shepherd'. This continuously rehashed statement by the breed's founder is incredibly misleading and most definitely false."

Obviously these folks still don't "get it". When Colonel Sanders chose the 11 herbs and spices for his KFC formula, he had every right to call it **HIS** recipe! If others choose to change those ingredients, they have NO right to call it KFC.  Except for the fact that I never bothered to TRADEMARK **MY** name, that's why they were able to steal it and then change the recipe!!  (Please read What is a Shiloh Shepherd!) Now they claim that the LGHSD's they produce are MY dogs? NOT!! They are no more Shiloh Shepherds than frozen Banquet chicken is KFC!!

The Shiloh Shepherd has been carefully and selectively bred (with over 50 years of fully documented detailed LMX - littermate x-ray - data) under MY personal supervision since 1974!

Shiloh Shepherd History

"Yes, they're all 'old style German Shepherd dogs' but that's what this breed was built upon."

That proves my point again!! If you study the history of the Doberman, you will note that the breed's founder, Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, added in the Greyhound, Manchester Terrier and other combinations, but due to selective breeding for several decades, the Dobe now breeds true to type.  However, if some folks came, along and chose to breed in Greyhounds again, how long would the Doberman type last?

Million Dollar Question: What is a Breed

"The 'breed under development' argument is not entirely true as the Shiloh Shepherd Breed Standard has been in effect since 1991. If it were a supposed breed in development, the Breed Standard would be in development too."

These folks never fail to amuse me!! Obviously they have NO clue as to what a Breed Standard stands for! Its a BLUEPRINT - PICTURE - of what you/the breeders are trying to create!! Each parent is selected with the "IDEAl" example in mind and that is how, over 30-50 years, "breed type" is developed! Please refer to Carmen Battaglia's article, "Creating  A New Breed".  This "type" could NEVER be attained by constantly changing the blueprint!

<<For example, breeders who choose to create a new breed must be prepared to spend upwards of 50 years of continuous breeding to create a gene pool that will produce entire litters consistent in type and genetics. >>
Protecting Breed Development by Tina Barber, Left- Korcha 1990, Right-Shadow 2007

"Name Calling: anyone who spends a small amount of time investigating the Shiloh Shepherd on the internet will sure come across derogatory names like 'splinter' and 'sliver' in their investigations. Both terms (and others) were coined to represent break-away breeders - akin to splinters from a piece of wood. The 'splinters' have been accumulating for many years, and there's quite a tree now!"

Think about what they are saying!! You can toss a bunch of sawdust into a hole and expect it to turn into a tree?

Is that why these folks think that they can toss ANY kind of "GSD type" together and create a Shiloh? Just look at the way Judy put it in her NSBR rules!  "Must be of the Shepherd Family"   (Please see Outcross requirements)

"Fraudulent Practices: Are the breeders of Shiloh Shepherds registered in the NSBR, SSBA and TSSR all frauds? Absolutely not! It's actually fraudulent for any "salesperson" of Shiloh Shepherds to disregard the Genetic Heritage of a dog they've sold for thousands of dollars, and arbitrarily alter your Guarantee of a fully registered breed/show quality Shiloh for any reason. Regardless of the final chosen registry, a Shiloh Shepherd is a Shiloh Shepherd, proving the pedigree indicates as such."

This is true, but it does not apply to the progeny of that dog! Even if you purchased a top champion AKC German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Collie or whatever, if you bred that dog to an unregistered dog that just "resembled" that breed you could NEVER get AKC papers for the progeny!

Example: If you bred an AKC Collie to an AKC Shetland Sheepdog, both look somewhat similar and both have AKC papers, but WHAT can you register them as? Not sure? Call the AKC and ask them! Call the UKC or any legitimate European registry!

"Marketing 101: 'Investigate before you invest!' This common statement should be well known to today's consumers for raising red flags. The psychological assumption in this statement is that the author is the true authority on the subject, and you've found the source for all you need to know. Savvy people usually recognize this manipulation for what it is and continue investigating. However with the countless internet webpages on the founder's numerous web sites, how can a newbie possibly dissect the wheat from the chaff? Who do you trust?"

It's very simple! The proof is in the pudding! Shiloh Shepherds have been under development since 1974, they went ISSR in 1990 and have continued to breed true for the past 36 years. The frauds didn't even know WHAT a Shiloh was during most of those decades - yet now claim to know more than the developer? Think about it.  Does that make any sense?

"Read and reread your contract! If anything sounds unreasonable, it probably is! Please do not make any assumptions about a breeder from their religious associations. Request a minimum 5 generation pedigree on your potential puppy."

That's the first sane thing they said!

A. Don't worry about your breeder's "religious" affiliations.  That is between them and God.  Their religion doesn't have to influence you unless it leads you to salvation, but in any case it certainly will not affect the type of pup you get.

B. On the other hand, the pedigree will! So be sure to check it out carefully and make sure that both parents have proper ISSR papers! Without PROPER documentation, you are just getting a GSD mix! If you are not sure about the breeder's affiliation, check the licensed breeder matrix and study this site!

Shiloh Shepherds Pedigree Examples

In conclusion, if you are looking for a great family companion, you can do one of three things!

1. Find an honest LHGSD breeder who has been around for a LONG time (10 years or more) and has a good reputation within the GSDCA.  You will get a nice pup with AKC papers for approximately $1500, like these.

2. Research the Real Deal Shiloh, then contact our licensed breeders and join our forum so that you can talk to all of the breeders - owners - and even the BREED FOUNDER!! Then go to a show/event near you so that you can meet these dogs in person!! BTW, all shows are discussed on our forum!!

Once you have decided on the color, sex, temperament, etc. of your ideal companion, choose your breeder and put in your order!

All Licensed Breeders sell their pups as per the SSDCA Guidelines.

You won't have to worry about haggling over price! Your only concern will be the waiting period and availability.  If you'd like more information about the ISSR breeers, you can visit our online database. Nonetheless you can  be assured that within the ISSR - all breedings are approved by Tina Barber, the Breed Warden.

3. Or you can check out your local newspaper "pet" section and try to find a GSD mix. You can also try the local flea markets, Amish farms or even some internet sites (like Craig's List) but whatever you do - DON'T PAY A PREMIUM PRICE FOR A FAKE "shilow" SELLING FOR MEGA BUCKS VIA ONE OF THOSE "FOLKS". INVESTIGATE!!

In order to determine who's who "out there" - so that you can avoid ANY potential future issues - be sure to study my latest article, telling it like it is!!
