QUOTED FROM THE SS FORUM
Finally the Long Coated GSD has gained recognition (for the 2nd
time) and the FCI have given approval to include it in the GSD breed
standard (This has only to do with the SV in Germany, not any
other breed club, although they may eventually follow suit):
"Due to the decision in the Federal Assembly in 2008 and 2009, the SV has applied to the FCI to include in the breed standard of the German Shepherd dogs with the hair style " Longhaired with undercoat " as a separate variety. The FCI has now agreed to this request with effect from 1.1.2011 . This means that from 1.1.2011 German Shepherds with the hair style " Longhaired with undercoat - can participate in Bonitations , - can participate in dog shows . The organizers can set up your own classes for dogs with this hair style . It is not possible to install with mixed classes haired and long - haired dogs, - Are approved for breeding. This is important to note that fixtures are permitted only between dogs with the same hair style (stick hair stick hair, hair - long stick with Longhaired ). Pairings between haired and Longhaired dogs are not allowed. " To read more, see the link below: http://www.schaeferhund.de/site/
